Our staff and contractors always carry ID cards when visiting tenants or carrying out maintenance work and they will never ask for cash payments.
We want to make sure you know what to do if someone you are not expecting knocks at your door. If you are in doubt about the identity of a caller to your home, you should always refuse entry.
Here are a few helpful tips on how to stay clear of bogus callers:
- Make sure your back and front doors are locked whenever possible – whether you are at home or not.
- Try to recall if you were expecting anyone before answering a knock at the door.
- If you decide to open the door, always use the door chain until you are confident that the caller is trustworthy.
- Always check for ID if the stranger wishes to enter your house and claims to be an official from Watford Community Housing, the council, a utility company or any other organisation.
The golden rule: If you are unsure, DON’T open the door!
