As part of our commitment to building stronger communities, we’re really proud to support local grass roots sport and for the 2022/23 season we were the kit sponsor for Bedmond Youth FC. We caught up with our Multi-Skilled Repairs Operative – and team coach – Andy Grant, to find out a little bit more about the team and how their recently concluded season went.

Hi Andy. Can you tell us what age group you’re coaching?

I coach 22 boys across both the under 10s teams. The league we play in is non-competitive and is really good for helping the boys to bond with one another and work together, so we make sure that everyone on the team gets time on the pitch.

How long have you been managing the team?

I’ve been managing them for three and a half years now. I first got involved when my son wanted to join the team, and I’ve not looked back since!

Where do you play and train?

We’ve got a pitch and training ground on Toms Lane in Abbotts Langley. We train there on Saturday mornings.

Can girls join the team too?

Absolutely! We don’t currently have any girls at our age level, but Bedmond FC welcomes girls of all ages. They can either join in with the boys, or if they prefer, they can play in one of the dedicated girls’ teams.

You mentioned that you coach the under-10s. What other age groups are there?

There’s everything from under-6s, all the way up to under-16s, and then there is a men’s team too.

I understand you’ve recently had your end of season awards?

Yes. The boys worked so hard and it’s lovely to be able to reward them with a little get-together at the end of the season. I wish everyone could be given an award, but we do have a few that are given to the boys who have really improved or impressed over the course of the season. We have awards for Players’ Player, Coach’s Player, and Most Improved Player.

I’m also really proud to say that we ended our season with a big tournament win. We won three of the five games we played – including an incredible 5-0 win – so wanted to say well done again to the boys!
