Throughout the year, our volunteers help us to create strong, connected and open community spaces. Whether it’s helping us to shape our services to better meet your needs, providing activities and meeting places for residents in Watford or becoming our close partners in the Gateway Membership Team, there are a lot of volunteers doing amazing things for other people.

To give something back, every year we hold a volunteers' dinner, inviting all those people who have put in so much time and effort to improve our communities to an event which shows how much we appreciate them. This year, we celebrated at West Herts College, and continued our support of young talent by dining at the restaurant which serves meals cooked by Food and Hospitality students.

We are supported by a real variety of volunteers, all of whom do incredible work in different ways. Some of the evening’s guests included: members of our residents associations, members of the Gateway Membership Team (GMT), the coordinators of the Nifty Over Fifty group, residents who were involved in the scrutiny review of our estate services earlier this year, our new ‘expert customers’ who will be advising us on how to shape our services as well as taking a qualification in Housing Practice, and volunteers from new community groups set up this year.

Katina Mailley, Vice Chair of the Gateway Membership Team, said: “I had such a lovely time at the volunteers' dinner. It was a fantastic way to meet and show gratitude for all the people who give up their time and make such an effort for others. Everyone thought the evening really showed how much Watford Community Housing appreciate what we do – plus the meal was lovely! A wonderful time was had by all.”

Amy Willcox-Smith, Head of Customer Relationships at Watford Community Housing, said: “This event is an opportunity for us to say a huge thank you to the teams of people and individuals who work so hard for our residents and communities. West Herts College always put on a fantastic (and delicious) evening for us, and this year we could even buy homemade treats made by students! Again, I’d like to say a huge thank you to our volunteers and everyone involved in our community, for a wonderful evening”.
