Let's get digital! Residents learn how to get online in our first Herts Adult Learning courses

Over the course of this year, we’ll be bringing you a number of opportunities to build confidence and skills across a range of topics. The first two of these courses, ICT For Beginners, concluded last week, with all of the learners across both groups receiving a certificate to celebrate all their hard work!

As part of our commitment to empowering tenants and investing in our communities, we’re funding ten courses with Hertfordshire Adult and Family Learning Service (HAFLS). We want to provide people in our communities with easily accessible opportunities to boost life skills.

This course focused on help people who had very little previous knowledge on how to use a computer to become a little more digitally savvy. There were sessions covering everything from the basics of computers to internet safety, and one session also included information on how to sign up for one of our new online accounts.

Speaking about the course, one learner said it had helped her in more ways than one: “I’ve really grown in confidence thanks to learning more digital skills. Now I’m able to go that little bit further and push myself in what I’ve learnt. I’ve been getting to give my brain a workout, and I feel less lonely at home now I can get in touch with people through my iPad. Plus, I can find a bit of ‘50s rock and roll music whenever I like!”

Evelyn Djan from Hertfordshire Adult and Family Learning Service, who taught the course, said: “As part of what we do, we often team up with partners like Watford Community Housing to bring training to residents across Hertfordshire. This wonderful group of learners have hugely developed their digital skills, and have improved their wellbeing as a result – they especially benefitted from the session on Snapchat! Delivering sessions like these and others helps us to show everyone that you’re always able to learn something new.”
