A ground-breaking ceremony has been held to mark Clarendon Living’s first development in East Hertfordshire. Martina Kennedy, Director of Clarendon Living, was joined by Councillor Linda Haysey, Leader of East Herts Council, Councillor Jan Goodeve, Executive member for Housing at East Herts Council and Chris Cheshire, Chair of Clarendon Living, to celebrate works beginning on site. The event was also attended by representatives from Watford Community Housing, architects Kyle Smart Associates, construction and property consultants RLF and contractor Parrott Construction.

The site on Cambridge Road in Puckeridge will offer one 2-bedroom and eight 3-bedroom spacious family houses. As the homes are to be built in a desirable area with excellent transport links, these homes are expected to attract significant interest.

Clarendon Living is Watford Community Housing’s commercial subsidiary and the development is notable as the Group’s first for sale on the open market, as well as its first in East Hertfordshire. The housing association will use profits from the development to help deliver its ambitious plan to build 1,000 new homes by 2020, with a focus on affordable housing.

Martina Kennedy, Director of Clarendon Living, said: “We’re thrilled that our first development in East Hertfordshire is now under way. It will deliver attractive family homes in the beautiful village of Puckeridge which will also help us to provide much-needed affordable housing in Hertfordshire.”

East Herts Council granted planning permission for the development in January 2018, and contractor Parrott Construction has now begun work on site. With an increased focus on the use of off-site manufacturing techniques for construction projects in Hertfordshire, the new homes will be built using timber frame construction – helping to deliver more sustainable homes and a more efficient build programme.

Linda Haysey, Leader of East Herts Council, said: “We welcome high-quality housing in Puckeridge and we look forward to working with Clarendon Living and Watford Community Housing in the future.”

Speaking about the development, Chris Layram, Managing Director of Parrott Construction said: “We are delighted to be working with Clarendon Living to construct this prestigious first development of market sale homes in Puckeridge. We’re looking forward to producing high-quality homes which not only benefit local people, but also contribute to the ambitious vision of Watford Community Housing.”

The development is scheduled to complete in summer 2019.
