Meet the hirers – Leventis Tae Kwon Do!

We got the chance to speak to the wonderful Lorraine Leventis who runs Leventis Tae Kwon Do from our very own Leavesden Green Community Hub. The Covid-19 pandemic meant her classes were unable to run, but that didn’t stop Lorraine’s complete and utter love for the sport. 

Everyone is welcome at Leventis Tae Kwon Do! Lorraine caters for a huge variety of people – with students aged from 5 to 50+, individuals with special needs and learning difficulties, those wanting to learn self-defence or those just wanting a bit of exercise – there is something for everyone!

Lorraine taught us that it is never too late to start a new skill. After watching her children train, she wanted to give it a go herself. She began training at the age of 35 and has since been the national champion in sparring for five years in a row. In 2009, as well as still training herself, she started teaching. And thus, Leventis Tae Kwon Do was born!

Mixed Martial Arts has become more popular in recent years, but Lorraine’s club is one of a kind! They focus mainly on traditional martial arts which teach discipline and respect rather than just the physical aspect. Leventis Tae Kwon Do offers a balance of mental and emotional benefits, as well as the physical benefits. The students find they can focus easier and for longer, it builds their confidence and is a great stress release. And of course, you feel the physical effects such as increased stamina, strength, flexibility and coordination. 

One of the most important things about the club is the sense of community and belonging that comes with it. Not only do you have the opportunity to train with your friends and family, which allows for a great bonding experience, but you become so close with your team that they become like a second family. 

They may be a small team, but they are definitely mighty! A huge thank you to Lorraine for taking the time to talk to me about her amazing club.
