Did you know that you could be entitled to Healthy Start vouchers to help buy essential food items if you’re pregnant or have a young child? Pregnant women and children over one and under four can get one £3.10 voucher per week, and children under one can get two £3.10 vouchers per week.

The vouchers, which can be redeemed at local retailers, can be spent on milk, fresh or frozen fruit or vegetables, fresh, dried and tinned pulses, and instant formula milk. You can also swap your voucher for free Healthy Start vitamins which are specifically designed for pregnant and breastfeeding women and growing children.

As of today, there are still over a third of eligible parents in Hertfordshire who have not yet claimed their vouchers.

To prevent missing out, check your eligibility as soon as possible at www.gov.uk/healthy-start. You can pick up an application leaflet at your GP’s or baby clinic. Alternatively, you can phone for a form on 0345 607 6823 or download and print one from www.healthystart.nhs.uk/healthy-start-vouchers/how-to-apply/. Due to covid19 restrictions the form does not need to be signed by a health professional.

If you have money worries, there is lots more help available too. Our Tenancy Support team can provide a range of support, including helping you review your benefits if you are not sure where to start. You can also use the benefit-checker on the Hertfordshire County Council’s website, and access free information about benefits that you might be missing out on – www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/benefits
