Storm Eunice – Advice for our residents

In light of the yellow weather warning issued for Hertfordshire, we want to assure our customers of the appropriate action to take should you have any issues, and to let you know that we’re here for you.

With respect to personal safety, and what to do before, during and directly after a storm, the Met Office outlines a comprehensive set of guidelines here.

In addition to the Met Office guidance, we would strongly advise that our residents bolt down or put away any garden furniture and stay indoors where possible. This includes large items such as trampolines and goalposts, as the wind may be sufficiently strong to carry them away.

The Met Office has also warned that there is the possibility of trees being uprooted, power outages and flying debris.

For any trees on Watford Community Housing land that present imminent danger, our grounds maintenance contractor – Accuro – are on standby for Friday and Saturday. Trees that have fallen on other land or on public roads should be dealt with by the relevant highway emergency service or local council. If a fallen tree is obstructing a road, this should be reported to Hertfordshire County Council here.

Power outages are dealt with by UK Power Networks. Should you experience a power outage, we would suggest that you access the UK Power Networks website, where you can enter your postcode to receive a status update on your area and report any problems. You can also call 0800 31 63 105.

A power cut is usually more of an inconvenience than a danger, but if you are worried about what you should do before or during one, the UK Power Networks provides useful advice here.

In the unlikely event that you continue to experience issues over the weekend, our out of hours service is running as usual and can be reached by calling 0800 218 2247.
