Celebrating Christmas with our communities

Celebrating Christmas with our communities
Published: 30 Dec 2025

We are proud to work closely with our community groups, especially at Christmas, to put on events that everyone can enjoy – whether that is through funding, hosting or just general support.

Let’s take a look at how Jimmy's Jackets, the Leavesden Community Group and others celebrated this year.

Jimmy's Jackets

Jimmy's Jackets is our weekly lunch club where attendees can socialise with their friends and have a free hot meal.

On a regular Wednesday they get a jacket potato, but for Christmas everyone was treated to a full roast dinner, mince pies, Buck's Fizz and a glass of Baileys! As well as the feast, we also had a staff member playing the saxophone and a photobooth for everyone to enjoy.

The Leavesden Community Group

The Leavesden Community Group were very busy this December hosting events for the local community.

On 12 December, those on Santa’s nice list had the opportunity to meet and get a present from Santa himself in his grotto.

Then on 16 December Santa toured Leavesden and Woodside in his sleigh, raising £531 for local charities.

Finally on 17 December, the group spread the festive joy at Asda by singing carols with a choir called Helly’s Angels. This event helped to raise £121.15 for Home Start Watford, a charity who support families in our local community.

The Leavesden Community Group committee are looking for more members! If you fancy getting involved and supporting the community, email community@wcht.org.uk.

Meriden Residents' Association

The Meriden Residents’ Association held a brilliant event for the whole family on 6 December which included face-painting, balloon animals and a visit from Santa. Those who attend their weekly coffee morning also enjoyed a free Christmas dinner.

Other festivities...

  • Christmas lunches and parties were being held all across our Independent Living schemes!
  • Solo Stars (a group designed to support single parents) held their annual Christmas party on 7 December and were joined by both Santa and the Grinch.
  • All Saints Church Leavesden held their very popular annual carol service at our Leavesden Green Community Hub. There was carol singing and readings by members of the community, as well as free mince pies, mulled wine, and hot chocolate for everyone to enjoy.
  • The Nifty Fifties (a group for local residents aged 50+) had a festive afternoon tea on 9 December and then a Christmas lunch at the beautiful Hunton Park hotel on 14 December.
