ENGIE, our contractors on our improvement programme, are helping people get back to work by offering apprenticeships, placements and work experience opportunities through their Social Value initiative. By working together to not only improve your homes but also improve lives in the community, ENGIE are helping us to deliver better homes and friendlier communities to even more people.

ENGIE’s most recent work experience placement opportunity was awarded to Sarah Rose (above right) from Watford. Having been out of work for seven years caring for her father and her children, Sarah’s confidence in her career had taken a dip. However, by giving Sarah the chance to get back into an office environment at their compound on the Harebreaks – and by showing her the whole process of a new kitchen and bathroom installation from start to finish – ENGIE have given Sarah a chance to kickstart her working life once again. ENGIE even worked out a flexible working schedule for Sarah, so that she could pick up new skills whilst still caring for her children.

Speaking about her time with ENGIE, Sarah said: “I’ve loved all of my time during my work experience placement. It’s really boosted my confidence to be able to be back in a working environment, and I’ve shown myself I can still get back into work. It was really interesting to see the whole improvement programme process, from pre-condition checks to installation. I’m now planning to use my newfound confidence to help me find work in the future”.

ENGIE helped another Watford Community Housing tenant, Kelsey Fox (above left), back into work earlier this year, by awarding her a contract as an apprentice. After an incredible few months on the job, Kelsey has made such an impact that she’s been nominated for an Engie Apprentice award! The award celebrates apprentices from across the country, so we’re proud that Kelsey’s hard work can now be seen on a national level. Good luck Kelsey!
