We are very pleased to announce that we have signed up to Harry’s Pledge, showing our commitment to supporting carers.

By definition, a carer is someone who provides care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness, substance misuse issue, or who needs extra support as they grow older. This past year has shown, more than ever, that both paid and unpaid carers are not valued enough and that so much more can be done to help.

That’s why we signed up to support Harry’s Pledge. We are committed to focusing on four key areas that provide support to those who need it:

  • We will be a carer friendly employer
  • Our office and community spaces will be as accessible as possible
  • Our homes will be as accessible as possible
  • We will work together with our colleagues to make a difference

Paul Richmond, our Deputy Chief Executive, said: “We’re very proud to support Harry’s Pledge. We know some of our staff and customers are unpaid carers, and we have seen how important they have been during the coronavirus pandemic for those in need of care.

We think supporting Harry’s Pledge carries a really important message to show our staff and customers we are committed to supporting carers.

At Watford Community Housing we have our own Parents & Carers Network within our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Group. These members support our commitment to ensure families and carers have access to appropriate services, as well as working with partners, such as Harry’s Pledge, to eliminate barriers for families and carers.”
