On Wednesday 19th and 26th May we visited seven of our estates to hand out free wildflower seeds and compost with the aim of brightening up our tenants’ gardens in time for summer.

With a truck full of compost, a bag full of seeds, the Accuro management team on pot filling duty and our staff door knocking, leaflet dropping and encouraging customers to join us – we were ready for our first event back out in the community!

We gave out so many pots full of seeds and compost that there is no doubt we have encouraged the butterflies and bees to make their way to Watford this summer. But what made the days that little bit more special were the interactions with our tenants.

Here are a few of our favourites:

  • Multiple children asking for two pots so they can give them to their little siblings at home.
  • One gentleman who just came over for a chat because his wife had died, and he wanted someone to talk to.
  • One little girl came with her dad to collect a pot of seeds and then returned half an hour later with her mum to ask for some compost so that she could grow more things in her fairy garden.
  • A man carrying his empty pot to the truck said, “I feel like Oliver Twist, can I have some more please?”

A huge thank you to Jane and the Estates team for organising the events, the Community team for helping out, and all the tenants who had a chat with us!
