The theme was party, party, party this Christmas for our independent living residents, with a festive gathering at Horwood Court kicking off proceedings.

A handful of parties were organised at five of our independent living schemes to give people the chance to get together for an afternoon of fun, food and entertainment.

Transport to and from the party was arranged for those who wanted to come from other schemes, along with a fantastic buffet and hot drinks – so all residents needed to bring was themselves! Musician ‘Just Dave’ performed an array of festive favourites and old classics that had the whole room singing and even got some of the partygoers dancing!

This particular party was made all the more special with the group also celebrating resident Audrey’s 97th birthday. Cheered on by her friends, Audrey blew out her birthday candle (thankfully not 97 of them) and the party tucked into some much deserved cake!

This wonderful event was facilitated by our Scheme Officers, Wendy Browning and Caroline O’Donovan, and was paid for with money raised by renting out the communal spaces at our independent living schemes.

Resident Joyce, who this year reached the tender age of 100, said: “Everybody came together and chatted – the service from the staff made it very special and they encouraged everyone who could to get up and dance!”

Sandy, another attendee, said: “It was a lovely afternoon! When is the next one?” before booing when the taxi arrived to take her home!
