Services for Young People, previously known as YCH or Youth Connexions, are an amazing group that support the young people of Hertfordshire with their transition into adulthood. They tackle important issues, such as knife crime and mental health, and provide them with practical advice and support to help them feel happy and safe.

A huge variety of services are provided across Hertfordshire, with SfYP Watford running activities in our Leavesden Green and Harebreaks Community Hubs. There’s the ‘Move It’ Health Project for young people with learning disabilities (aged 13 to 17), and NHS Cadets, for young people aged 14 to 16 who are thinking about a career in the NHS. Although the target age for SfYP is 13 to 17, they do work with young people as young as 11 and as old as 24, depending on their individual vulnerabilities. You can find a full list of weekly activities and special events on their website.

To provide this wonderful wealth of information and support to those who need it, they follow two areas of work. The information, advice and guidance side offers essential careers guidance and personal support, as well as advice on housing, benefits, sexual health and more. The youth work part of the organisation offers projects to help young people to develop their personal and emotional skills. The projects offer support to young people in specific areas or target specific groups; eg aimed at a single gender, LGBT+, young people with learning difficulties, BAME individuals etc.

This past year has been incredibly difficult for everyone, but especially for children and young people. Services such as this are incredibly important to help young people understand that they aren’t alone in such uncertain times.

We want to give a huge thank you to Megan and Kate for telling us all about the important service that SfYP provides for the young people of Hertfordshire! You can find out more and contact them at:
