Watford Community Housing celebrated the development at The Brow reaching its highest point with a ceremony attended by Mayor Peter Taylor. Councillors, local residents and senior staff from development contractor Mulalley also joined our representatives to mark the success of the project.

The regeneration at The Brow will provide much-needed affordable housing and better retail facilities, which will support the local community in meeting housing need and reducing the risk of anti-social behaviour, as well as giving the area a more modern look.

The development includes a total of eight new shops, as well as 38 homes. These include a mix of affordable rent, shared ownership and three large family homes for social rent, all of which were supported by grant from Homes England.

The topping out ceremony is the latest milestone in a development which has been progressing well, with works that have been carried out quickly and efficiently, minimising disruption for nearby residents.

As part of the ceremony Tina Barnard, Chief Executive of Watford Community Housing, Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor and local councillor Stephen Cavinder signed the final piece of roof coping. The guests then watched as a crane lifted it up and laid it on the top of the new development to commemorate the success so far.

Gareth Lewis, Group Director of Partnerships for Watford Community Housing said: “We are really pleased to have reached such a significant milestone in this development. The work of both our project team and the contractor, Mulalley, has ensured that works have progressed quickly, and as a result we are optimistic that the regeneration of The Brow will be able to finish ahead of schedule. This will mean high-quality affordable homes and modern retail spaces will be available to the local area sooner than originally planned, which is great news.”

Elected Mayor Peter Taylor said: “It was great to join local residents, councillors and Watford Community Housing for this topping out ceremony. It’s good to see how much progress is being made to deliver much-needed social and affordable housing for local people who really need it the most, as well as improved local shopping facilities. I can’t wait to see the finished project!”

Councillor for Woodside Stephen Cavinder commented: “I was delighted to attend the topping out ceremony and to see for myself the progress being made which will ensure that this development is completed on time. This is an important development for Woodside which will provide much-needed affordable housing and high-quality retail units to the local area.”
