About Us
Watford Community Housing Trust (the Trust) is a Community Gateway - we are owned by our tenant members.
In accordance with tenants’ wishes, the Trust is a new not-for-profit registered social landlord with charitable status, based in Watford and founded on the principles of the Community Gateway model placing tenant and community empowerment right at the heart of everything we do.
In September 2007, we worked in partnership with tenants and leaseholders, who voted to transfer their tenancies from Watford Borough Council (WBC). As a result we own and manage more than 4,700 homes in Watford.
We provide services to 20 local community areas. Listening to, and acting on what tenants say, helps us provide services that meets our tenant’s needs and priorities – now and in the future.
We have a vibrant and growing membership – members are encouraged to get involved as much or as little as they want, at a level they choose and on the issues that matter to them.
Residents living in our local community areas, but not tenants of the Trust, can become associate members to support the work the Trust is doing and get involved in decision making at a local level.
How do we work
We are goverened by our Board which is made up of tenants, independents and councillors. The Board is responsible for achieving our aims and objectives as an organisation.
We have a growing membership of tenants who are consulted about the way we administer housing services, members are represented by the Gateway Committee, an elected group of 30 tenants who meet at the offices with staff to make recommendations to our Board.
We have a Chief Executive and Executive Management team who are responsible for our staff. The Chief Executive answers to the Board.
